Moonlit Tales

chillwave downtempo hiphop lofi

Moonlit Tales

Moonlit Tales by Portland's Kalaido is a dreamy collection of 11 lo-fi hip hop instrumentals featuring live recordings of guitar, flute, oboe, and trumpet from fellow artists Pearl Pixel, Kennebec, and Kelly Pratt. The most notable of these contributors, Kelly Pratt, is a founding member of the band Beirut and a highly recognized multi instrumentalist and composer having worked with groups like LCD Soundsystem, Passion Pit, and The Antlers. Pearl Pixel is primarily a sound designer and VGM composer for games like StarCrossed, ZED, and Wishmere. Kennebec is from the Portland lo-fi scene and makes vibrant and contemplative downtempo chillwave. They released their first full...

Afterglow

future funk nu disco synthwave vaporwave

Afterglow

bl00dwave's 2014 release N E W  V I S U A L S was my introduction to vaporwave and I have remained a fan of their music ever since. The album features collab tracks with heavy hitters  猫 シ Corp and YUNG BAE and was undoubtedly what set me down the path of future funk, city pop, lo-fi and plunderphonics. In late 2015 bl00dwave started moving away from making sample based music and began producing a more retro synth-wave sound. Their 2018 album EGO is where I believe the combination of all of these influences truly harmizes into a perfectly executed record featuring some really dope vocal...

Wind Your Spring

beats glitch house IDM

Wind Your Spring

Cody J AKA Corduroi is a glitchy beatmaker and IDM producer from San Antonio, TX. Wind Your Spring is a collection of unreleased tracks spanning half a decade. It was followed a couple of weeks later by a 5 song EP entitled Imago that I also recommend checking out. I have an aversion to trip-hop and I would be lying if I said that a lot of these songs didn't fall under that classification but this shit hits different. It sounds biomechanical. The songs are filled with classic naustalgic electro sounds but the vibe is very organic in the literal sense. Like watching a...

Impact Winter OST

Impact Winter OST

Mitch Murder is not only a well known contributer to the '80s retro synthwave genre but also a sought after soundtrack composer. He is most notably responsible for having produced the majority of the music for the 2015 film Kung Fury including it's title track. Mitch is also behind the OSTs to Megamagic - Wizards of the Neon Age, Impact Winter and contributed 2 tracks to the Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number soundtrack. This OST is John Carpenter, Vangelis and Wendy Carlos with some beatiful pads and piano sounds that help you remain stoic in the face of arctic desolation. I believe a games music is a major determining factor in its replay value. I would not...
